In 2016 the national poverty rate was 12.7 percent. That means 40.6 million people are living in poverty in the United States. In Georiga alone, 19 percent of the state population lives in poverty, which has increased by 1 million people since 2000. Poverty comes in many shapes and forms and can have a lasting impact on children, families, and communities. As we approach this season of giving thanks we ask that you consider those who are less fortunate than you. In doing so, we invite you to partner with us in making a difference in the life of a family in need this holiday season. Please unite with us by supplying toys, clothing, shoes, and food to a family in need through our annual Adopt-A-Family program. Last, year Black Ladies International adopted 15 families and served over 30 children. This year it is our goal to adopt 20 families.
